Geogrid in SRW Construction

Paver Pete demonstrates how to properly install geogrid in a segmental retaining wall installation.

STEP 1:

Level the backfill.

STEP 2:

Install a geogrid.

It is recommended to follow the recommendations of an engineer.

Here are our engineer’s specifications in this situation:

  • Grid on top of the first course of blocks, 8 inches from the base
  • Grid length of 8 ½ feet, measured from the face of the block to the tale of the grid

STEP 3:

Drive a spike or a sod staple in the geogrid to tension it properly.

Cover an opening

The convex curve of our wall created a wedge-shaped opening.

We solved this problem by adding another course of grid with 4 inches of aggregate.

A geogrid should always abut and never overlap.

It should also always be installed in a straight direction.
