An example of how to cross measuring tapes in order to lay your pavers on a perfect 90-degree angle.
A common misconception is to lay right off of the curb, but it’s often not parallel to the house.
It’s better to never assume that the poured-in-place concrete is square.
In this case, we drew a line at 30 feet from the foundation of the house.
We’ll measure off this line to be able to build evenly.
We put another mark at about 12 feet, representing the center of the body of the pavement.
Here are 2 methods that can be used to get square with the house:
3-4-5 method
STEP 1: Put another mark at 3 feet from the center of the body of the pavement, while being parallel to the line.
STEP 2: Measure 4 feet towards the house from that point and put another mark.
Both those sides will form a 90-degree angle if the line uniting them measures 5 feet.
Equidistant measurement
STEP 1: Choose a measurement (in this case 7 feet) and put a mark at that distance in both direction from the center of the body of the driveway.
STEP 2: Take 2 tape measures, start both of them from these marks and cross them.
Where the tapes have an equal measurement, we can snap a line from the initial center point.
We will have a perfect 90-degree angle and we will be ready to lay.
