Foundation
Paver Pete describes how to lay a proper foundation for a stoop construction.
Settlement needs to be prevented.
Especially in this situation, where the steps we need to build connect to an exit on the side of the house.
To ensure this, we excavated 42 inches, until we reached below the frostline.
These are the steps to follow to build a proper base for a stoop.
STEP 1: Amend and compact the soil subgrade.
STEP 2: Add 6 inches of ¾-inch clean stone.
STEP 3: Install steel reinforcement for the concrete slab.
Make sure to anticpate leaving a space between the house and the stoop as you build it.
It’s important to allow the air to circulate.
Concrete Steel-Reinforced Slab
Paver Pete explains how to steel-reinforce a base and pour a concrete slab in a stoop construction project.
After installing a bed of ¾-inch clean stone, it’s time to reinforce the base.
STEP 4: Lay 2-inch pedestals and place a steel mesh on them.
STEP 5: Pour a 4-inch thick concrete slab over the steel reinforcement.
